just came cross the pen written post that  a MTK6589 quad core phone N7500 will hit the market soon. by searching the internet, found the below spec.  we introduced 3 MT6589 phone sometime ago but still no one is really on the market. maybe this N7500 will be the first one that will sell massively in the market?

Just saw the rumor that apple would make $99 low end iphone. i do not know if it possible as i think ios can not work on cheap chips. or Apple do not use ios? but maybe nothing is impossible as you see a Chinese invented ipod peel to convert ipod to a mobile phone. actually the total cost is not so high and it is less than USD99.

but i am concerned if Apple makes iphone at $99, thousands of Chinese unbranded or OEM MTK smartphones might close for good as in the near future for these Chinese makers, it is impossible to make a good android smartphone below the 100 dollars. The “good” means good to the point that customers will like the phones.

also even presume that Chinese makers can create good smartphones at USD70, how can you compete 99$ iphone?  Iphone is not just a product but a marketing machine. No one will save 30 dollars to buy Shanzhai “good” android smatphone but a $99 iphone.

If this happens, I think it might “game over” for thousands of Chinese phones makers and the industry.

In October MediaTek lanched its first quad core processor SOC, the MT6589 (MTK6589) which packs 4 cortex A7 processor cores  and PowerVR SGX544 graphics, which allows it to handle 720p screens, 13 MP cameras, and 1080p playback. It also features a powerVR series 5XT GPU, and a built-in 42Mbps HSPA+ / TD-SCDMA capable dual sim dual active radio. Some people say it is not so powerful as Samsung solution Exynos 4412 but you can’t compare them in a simple way. MT6589 has its advantage too, for instance MT6589 is smaller and more thermal-efficient and lower power consumption so you can make a mobile phone with same battery work longer.

I tried to search the phones on the market at this moment who have made a real phone with MT6589 solution. Though i could not get a real phone for hands-on, I found three phones from 3 different suppliers.

Android phones and tablets are so popular and i think android eats a chunck of iphone market share. maybe you are android lover or users but maybe you want and like iphone 5?  One China Shanzhai phone maker put one 3G android phone on the market not long again and the model is S812 and now they will have this new model which can support WCDMA–This is their Avatar G580, a sleek android os mobile phone.

The screen of Avatar G580 is 3.2 HVGA 320×480 lcd touch screen. The screen quality should be ok. the size of 3.2 inch is surely the trend of these touch phones.

It adopts the processor of Qualcomm MSM 7227, the maximum speed could reach 600MHz. Respectively RAM/ROM is 256M/256M. It supports 32gb microSD expansion. WIFI and GPS on it are like standard for “high end” shanzhai smart phones.

It feels really sleek as the thickness of the phone is only 10.7mm.

The inital price could be set at RMB1900 (around USD280), which is pretty high as a Shanzhai unbranded phone. but in terms of specs like 3g capability, it might be worth the money.
